Our Reviews!

Amanda V.

My (now 2 year old) son has been attending Toddler House for 6 months now and we just love it. We compared several full-time care facilities prior to selecting, and the difference with the Toddler House is the behavior of the children. When we visited other locations, the children were wild, everywhere, and terrible listeners. At the TH on 34th street, the children are well-behaved and sweet to one another. Often, my son wants to sing happy birthday to the other kids in his class at night because they are friends. The staff are caring and proactive with their communication, they have tried and true advice if an issue comes up (from diaper rash to temper tantrums), but honestly the best thing that happened to our son was his vocabulary. When we dropped him off he was almost 20 months and not talking, despite our nanny working tirelessly with him. After two months being surrounded with the other kiddos, he started speaking clearly. Now, he can easily count to ten, he sings most of his ABCs, and he loves animal noises. They really worked with him, and you can just tell the staff adore him. It’s a wonderfully homey environment. If you are looking for the latest and greatest technology and equipment, this isn’t the place for you. But if you want caring women to work with your child in small class sizes, this place is great.

Preschool Programs

Infant Program (6 weeks – 12 months) The beginning of wonderful pre-school memories starts in our infant room.

Our babies are cared for by friendly, enthusiastic, and responsive caregivers in a calm, soothing, happy environment. Their daily needs are addressed with smiles and frequent eye contact. Loving interaction between baby and caregiver is given during diaper changes, feedings, rest time, and playtime.

Babies are talked to about what they are seeing and experiencing thus encouraging their vocabulary development. Songs are frequently sung and soothing music is played during naps. There is plenty of cuddle time and babies are given plenty of individualized attention.

Parents are kept up to date with a daily sheet that reports feeding times/amounts, diaper changes, nap times, and activities that occurred each day. The staff is responsive to each parent’s concerns and suggestions and baby’s achievements are joyfully shared.

Our room resembles a relaxing home atmosphere with cribs, age appropriate toys, bouncers, high chairs and a comfy rocking chair. Each child has their own cubby for personal items. There is adequate space for the staff to sit on the floor with baby during play. Your child’s happiness and comfort is our first priority as we provide you with a safe and secure program.

Young Toddler Program (12-18 months old)

In the Young Toddler Classroom the children are introduced to a class routine. The routine is flexible and is adjusted to meet the needs of the toddlers. They begin to eat, sleep, and play at the same time. This schedule allows predictability and a feeling of security among the toddlers. The students are introduced to colors, numbers, shapes, and letters.

Towards the middle of the year we begin to transition the toddlers from bottles to sippy cups. The children are encouraged to play cooperatively with their peers and the teachers continuously praise and model appropriate behavior. The students are nurtured and comforted throughout the day.

Toddler & Young 2’s Program (18-24 months old)

This nurturing environment provides the structure that allows the students to grow and learn while feeling safe and comfortable. Students are given daily opportunities to explore and learn through age appropriate toys and projects. Children in the Toddler Classroom are encouraged to try to use their words to express their needs and wants. The activities in the Toddler Classroom are developed to create learning experiences and social experiences through play, projects, and activities. A daily sheet is sent home to let parents know when the child was changed throughout the day, what they ate, and how long they slept.

Two Year Olds Program

The weekly themes in the 2 Year Old room promote independence through child centered and teacher directed activities throughout the day. Self-help skills such as eating skills, potty training, hand washing, and independently cleaning up are among the skills taught in this room. Each child is sent home with a daily sheet that explains toileting, eating, and rest time.

The Two Year Olds Program introduces students to circle time activities including calendar, weather, counting, story time, and songs. The age appropriate activities in this classroom promote taking turns, cooperating, sharing, and expressing feelings in appropriate manner.

Young Pre-K Program (3 years old)

A child’s feeling of independence and social interaction with others is what the Three Year Olds program is all about. Our This program revolves around the children learning to help themselves and getting along with others.

During the course of the day, children are encouraged to make choices for themselves, cooperate with others as well as listen and follow directions. During the course of the program the classroom teachers lead the children in small and large group activities, such as movement, read-a-loud stories, circle time and art activities. The children are encouraged to make friends, share and communicate with their classmates.

The children are also prompted to use the bathroom on their own, although assistance is given if necessary.
In preparation for the Pre-K classroom, these children work on their hand writing skills, colors, shapes and numbers. This also gives each teacher the opportunity to work one-on-one with each student.

The Pre-K Program (4-5 years old)

What makes pre-school fun? What makes a child want to learn? It is a Pre-K program like ours. Our safe and enriching program focuses on all aspects of creative learning. Hands on activities encompass exciting monthly themes which include nutrition, cooking, holidays, dinosaurs and safety, to name just a few.

The students rotate to a variety of learning centers which offer items to help stimulate young imaginative minds. Literacy is introduced with the letter of the week, creative writing and circle time readings.

Calendar time introduces them to the days of the week and the months of the year. Patterns, graphing, simple math and science activities are included in the weekly program.

Music, movement, and playground times are a favorite part of each day. The children’s art is proudly displayed around the room. Fine motor skills are used daily as they participate in themed take home projects. Their individuality is appreciated and their achievements are applauded.

Positive discipline methods are used so the children do not feel singled out or embarrassed. Preparing these young minds for kindergarten is a primary goal of the teachers as they encourage verbal skills, teach self-help skills and promote self assurance.

Summer Program:

During the summer months The Toddler House provides a program for our families for school-aged children up to a child’s 13th birthday. For each week in our ten week program a theme is chosen based on educationally appropriate and fun themes that interest our young children. Activities, art projects and events are based on these chosen themes. Some past themes include: Around the World Summer Edition (where we visited a country each week), Space Exploration, and Under the Sea. Each year the chosen theme is different and unique. Each summer The Toddler House offers special activities for the children such as Going to the Movies, Swimming at our Private Pool (lifeguard provided), Bowling, Cooking, Magic Shows, Reptile Exhibits by “the Snake Man”, and more. A calendar for each age group of events is sent home every month for our families to be informed regarding events and for the children to be involved in what is happening each day. We encourage our families to discuss with their children the events of the day and what to look forward to in each class.
